Yuliya Trishkeu on redefining the meaning of an Opera Diva

The opera singer who breaks stereotypes and rules, redefining the meaning of "Diva"

This collaboration project titled Redefining the Diva with an opera singer and model Yuliya Trishkeu is captured by Teesss Photography (Temitope Matthew Adio), styled by Oluwaseun Elizabeth Adio, The project highlights Yuliya’s unconventional artistic journey which demonstrates that nothing is impossible with faith.

Starting classical music training at a young age hypnotises one into the mentality of a complete worship and total sacrifice of one’s life for the chosen art form. Unfortunately, young women are constantly told that one cannot have a career in the performance arts and have a family.

However, this statement has never resonated with Yuliya’s dreams, as she knew that choosing just one was not an option for her.

Moving to the UK on the Exceptional Talent Visa, Yuliya has taken the risk of starting a family in the early days of her career. Realising the challenge she takes on, Yuliya knew that it will require a lot of emotional and physical strength to pursue her artistic and motherhood dreams with no compromise.

On the day when Yuliya’s first son was born, she received an invitation to perform in an opera gala, which was scheduled six weeks after. To many, this would seem like an unrealistic commitment. Nevertheless, Yuliya has discovered that the moment a woman receives a blessing to become a mother, she is granted the strength she has never had before.

Stylist Oluwaseun Elizabeth Adio (Hirededdress) chose to express this magic phoenix-life transformation with two stunning long dresses. White, representing the blessing of a new life appearing through the body of a woman. Gold, representing the vibrant rebirth of woman’s identity with an appearance of children.

Exactly six weeks after the birth of Yuliya’s son, she delivered a sensational performance at Clonter Opera Theatre. Throughout the first two years of motherhood there were many other significant performances which included a London concert with Ealing Symphony Orchestra, regular performances with Kensington Opera, Rogue Opera and a world premiere of a new song cycle Beggars Belief by Adam Gorb written specifically for Yuliya Trishkeu, which was performer at a prestigious Wigmore Hall in London.

Yet the biggest surprise was waiting for Yuliya this year just as she found out that she is expecting a second child.

In February this year Yuliya attended a photography studio opening to which she came as a photographer, something she did on the side for fun. As she was leaving, several photographers have asked Yuliya if she would be interested in modelling for their upcoming projects. The next day Yuliya has already signed her first commercial shoot contract.

Within the next few months Yuliya’s modelling career took off, landing her over 20 contracts, even when the maternity state became more obvious. She has been published by several fashion magazines and has been featured as a front cover model, styled in Millia London dress.

Despite the imposed stereotypes on women as they become mothers, Yuliya’s journey proves that having Faith and strong dedication to your dreams can turn the most impossible things into a reality. Yuliya’s upcoming operatic and modelling projects can be seen on her website and social media. Opera and modelling are not the only industries where you can come across this rising star’s name. Yuliya Trishkeu is also a published poet. Her poetry book Healing is available on all bookstore platforms across the world.
