The high-tech intruder

The intruder – human beings - is threatening animals and our ecosystem. The high-tech garments used in this photo story aim at creating better awareness of human threats on nature.

We live in a world where the balance between natural and artificial elements has become increasingly delicate. As humans, we’ve been trying to find a way to reconcile these two opposing forces, but the line between the natural environment and technology has become blurred, forcing them to collide and test each other’s boundaries.

In the pursuit of better resources, humans have taken over and destroyed the habitats of animals, encroaching on their territories to satisfy their own interests. The animals, in turn, have had to migrate to obtain new resources, roaring and warning as they are pushed to their limits. Unfortunately, when there is no way out, blood and flesh are all that remain.

While many people today seek outdoor activities to escape city life, from the animals’ perspective, we are simply invaders wearing reflective materials and bringing pollution and poison. As humans continue to increase their activities in nature, the animals’ living spaces get smaller and smaller, and we carry shiny “weapons” that invade their ecosystem. To bring attention to this issue, we are curating garments with high-tech treatments that emphasize the impression of humans as intruders from the animals’ or nature’s perspective.

To create a contrast between the outdoors and indoors, we want to tell a narrative about the order of the natural system when people venture into nature. For the indoor looks, we imagine shelters that people used to live in now being occupied by animals, as many news stories have reported. These animals have had to intrude into human living areas to find food, due to humans’ increasing activities in nature. While it is an imaginative concept, it also serves as a cautionary tale for people to consider the impact of their actions on the natural world.
