In between projects and training sessions, actor Sergio Delavicci pauses for a thoughtful exchange with Harper’s Bazaar. Known for his commanding presence on screen and grounded demeanor off it, he reflects on the craft of acting, personal resilience, and what it takes to keep moving forward – body, mind, and spirit – when the spotlight turns off.

Harper’s Bazaar (HBZVN): Sergio, you’re an action genre star. If you could assemble your “dream team” of actors and directors for the ultimate action movie, who would you invite?
SERGIO DELAVICCI: The actors I would assemble for the perfect recipe for an action film would be the same absolutely spectacular and extremely professional individuals that I have worked with over the years. These actors include Keanu Reeves, Sylvester Stallone, Jennifer Lopez, 50 Cent, Jessica Biel, and Channing Tatum.

The dream actor that I would have loved to work with would be Bruce Lee, my childhood role model. The directors that I would choose are Chad Stahelski and Steven Spielberg whom I worked with on the movie John Wick and The Post.

HBZVN: You grew up in different cultures and countries — how has this experience helped you understand your characters and their motivations more deeply?
SERGIO DELAVICCI: Growing up in different cultures and countries has given me a wide range of knowledge, experience, emotions, and perspectives on life. Therefore, I’m easily able to identify with the emotions of my role when it comes to understanding my characters and their motivations on a much deeper level. This is an actual and practical system called “Method Acting” which I personally use for a true authentic approach.

HBZVN: You constantly surprise us with your ability to transform, like in A Different Man. They say every actor dreams of their “role of a lifetime.” What would be your dream role?
SERGIO DELAVICCI: My dream role would be someone who starts out as a villain. Then, throughout the movie gradually turns into a hero after having a life changing experience and realizing that life is more meaningful when you save other people. This role would include a lot of action, love scenes, and exciting stunts.

HBZVN: What is the most challenging for you: the physical preparation for fight scenes or the emotional preparation for dramatic roles? And what was the most unexpected lesson you learned on set during action scenes that helped you in real life?
SERGIO DELAVICCI: Both the physical preparation for fight scenes and emotional preparation for dramatic scenes can be challenging. However, for me it’s extremely exciting because it allows me to dig deep within myself in order to bring out the best and step outside my comfort zone.

The most unexpected and memorable lesson that I learned on set during action scenes was that not everything you think is a good take will be utilized by the director. My personal experience would be when the film came out, many greatly choreographed fight scenes that I did were edited out. The life lesson that I withdrew from it was to be comfortable with being uncomfortable whether it’s physically, mentally, or psychologically.

HBZVN: How do you handle those moments when your energy is completely drained, but you still have to inspire others — both on screen and in life?
SERGIO DELAVICCI: Inspiring and uplifting others on screen and in real life actually helps me to keep going harder even when my energy is completely drained. I feed off of other people’s positive energy, which rejuvenates me. What also drives me when I feel drained is praying and working out.
