Michelle Guerra: Wake up every day with gratitude

The Cuban-American model is striving to overcome adversity and tragedy to become an inspirational figure in her community

Michelle Guerra, 27 years old, was born and raised in Miami, Florida, to two wonderful Cuban parents. Embracing the two cultures, Michelle said, “I was fortunate enough to be born in the USA and have the benefit of being raised with strong values from another culture such as hard work, integrity, compassion, humility, and love.”

In 2007, with her mom and dad, she visited Cuba for the first time in her life. They spent two weeks driving from one end of the island to the other, visiting and staying with family and loved ones. “It was an incredible learning experience for me, being twelve years old and being immersed in the land and history of my family. Cuba is a beautiful country with beautifully passionate people. I’m grateful I had the opportunity to visit and cherish the memories I still carry with me from that trip,” the young model stated.

A passion for music and modeling

Michelle studied Vocal Music at New World School of the Arts and graduated in 2013. Music has always been a significant part of her life. Her passion for music led her to pursue modeling, which she also loves. She is a natural in front of the camera and is seeking to advance in her modeling career.

The tragedy

Unfortunately, tragedy struck Michelle’s family on June 24th, 2021. She spoke about her sad story, “My father, Gil and his sweet wife, Betty, were taken from us the night of the Champlain Tower collapse in Surfside, Fl. They lived on the ninth floor and were among the 98 souls that were so suddenly taken away from this planet. In a matter of seconds, my life, my family, my relationship to everything around me, especially my relationship with myself and with my father all changed.”

She always keeps the fondest memories when she went fishing with her father in the Florida Keys. “I’d help him get his boat ready and we’d be on the water fishing for hours, I loved it, I know he did too.”

Be authentic and kind-hearted

Michelle’s father had always encouraged her to be the best version of herself and to help others whenever she could. In his memory, the model decided to pursue her dream of becoming a coach and transformational speaker. Michelle is currently working towards her Coach Certification and plans to start her classes in June 2023. She said, “My plan for my future is to be a Transformational Coach and Speaker!  I feel my purpose is to help raise the consciousness of the collective by helping people become more self-aware.” She believes that she is here to share her light, love, and knowledge with the world.

Her favorite quote is by Dr. Wayne Dyer, “If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.” She wakes up every morning with gratitude in her heart and a smile on her face because she knows that life and every present moment are a gift.
