The fashion world is continuously evolving and out of all the styles, matching outfits hold a rather special history. SISTAR19 being one of the fashion leaders, BORA and HYOLYN, charms us with yet another unique style. In this photoshoot, we take a closer look at their styling philosophy and approach to fashion as they reunite after 11 years. We explored how their coordinated outfits show off each of their personalities. From past pastel-toned lilac faux fur jackets to their current sophisticated styles, join us as we trace the fashion journey of SISTAR19.
HBZVN: As this is the first project together in 11 years, SISTAR19 showcased matching outfits for the album. How was that experience? The noticeable difference between the pastel-tone lilac fur jacket and the sky-blue fur stands out! Are there any other points of distinction in the outfits?
BORA: Rather than emphasizing our differences, we wanted to highlight the part of styling that made us look like twins, which was a styling approach we explored even during our previous SISTAR19 activities.
HYOLYN: BORA and I have a similar appearance yet distinct charm as a group. We thought it would be interesting to showcase our colors even when dressed identically, creating a fun point of saying, “We dressed the same, but we’re different.”
HBZVN: Ma Boy is a song that is still loved by many people. After 11 years, you’ve made a comeback with NO MORE (MA BOY). The title alone is likely to spark curiosity. Could you please introduce the album?
BORA: This album is an extension song from Ma Boy. If Ma Boy was about a young girl’s emotions expressed, this album is also about expressing emotions leading on from Ma Boy but being more mature and confident.
HYOLYN: The new album, NO MORE(MA BOY), includes two tracks in total. The title track, NO MORE(MA BOY) is a song that extends from Ma Boy, with a catchy melody that lingers in the ears. On the other hand, SAUCY is a song that can evoke similar feelings as Ma Boy.
HBZVN: SISTAR19 has returned with a more mature style in this album. Do you have your values or philosophies in expressing NO MORE(MA BOY)?
BORA: While we were preparing for this album, we discussed expressing a more laid-back image. We shared the idea of portraying a carefree side, and our thoughts aligned well on that.
HYOLYN: We wanted to show a sense of ease in this album. During our discussions, we agreed that expressing emotions more nonchalantly suits us better now compared to the intense and sorrowful expressions in the past.
HBZVN: After a long time, the two of you are working together again. Are there any differences compared to the past? Given the passage of time, have there been any changes in each other’s values or personalities, and are there any specific points where you think, “We really match well in the aspect”?
BORA: We had a lot of conversations and shared our thoughts a lot more while we were preparing the album. It made us understand each other better than before. It felt like we got to know each other more during this process, and instead of conflicts, we found many areas where our opinions aligned well.
HYOLYN: Rather than changes, we’ve become more accepting and respectful of each other’s differences. Even if others may not feel it, we are good at sensing each other’s moods and conditions. Working together, we’ve become better at understanding each other, and knowing how the other feels and thinks.
HBZVN: SISTAR19 is well known as “Summer Queens.” Do you have plans to reclaim the title of “Summer Queens” in the future?
BORA: We are thankful for the title “Summer Queens.” Whenever summer comes around I hope that our fans will continue to seek us out during the summer. But since SISTAR19 isn’t coming back for the summer, we would love to be recognized as “Awesome unnies and nunas” instead of being labeled as the “Summer Queens.”
HYOLYN: I hope “Summer Queens” will last forever being a label for SISTAR19, “Summer Queens” and we hope a similar label will form for SISTAR19 through this comeback.
HBZVN: Can you share your experience in the process of selecting songs, concepts, outfits, and shooting the music video for this album? Were you directly involved in any specific aspects? As it has been a long time since your last joint activity, what were you most excited about, and conversely, what were your concerns?
BORA: We have put a lot of effort into discussing and sharing opinions throughout every aspect of the process to create a great album. The excitement of meeting fans again and being back on stage after such a long time outweighed any concerns.
HYOLYN: After doing solo acts for a while, I felt the need to pay more attention to the overall picture when working together. So, we focused on creating a unified style and concept that reflects the color of SISTAR19. I’m most excited about performing on music shows with the member after six years, but I’m also concerned about live performances and maintaining our conditions.
HBZVN: Tell us about your daily fashion styles. Do you often have overlapping items like twins, or do you have a particular fashion item that you admired or found unique?
BORA: I don’t restrict my fashion so much, but I have leaned towards more calm styling. Instead of having similar styles, HYOLYN and I each had a unique color among the items we styled.
HYOLYN: I think it was SOYOU that had overlaps in style and items. I tend to wear more casual, comfortable styles, while BORA occasionally goes for classic looks, so our styles seem different.
HBZVN: After being in a solo activity for a long time, you’ve returned as SISTAR19. Do you have any words or plans to share with the fans who have waited a long time?
BORA: First of all, I’ve missed you all and am very excited and thrilled to see our fans through this SISTAR19 promotion. Thank you to everyone who has waited all this time and hope we can enjoy this SISTAR19 album together.
HYOLYN: Thank you for waiting for this special album which had been uncertain for a long time. I hope this present that we’ve prepared is something you all enjoy and hope we get closer through this project. Let’s see each other more! I LOVE YOU!
